Each of us have our own little ways of doing specific things, particular brands of items we prefer over others, and specific routines others may not understand or agree with. Others may call us eccentric, weird, difficult, picky, or even ridiculous. This is because they do not or will not accept any other ways, standards, or understandings other than their own. This is okay because life and time has a way of shining a light on their own weird ways.
People are individuals first and foremost. What we dislike in others is what we struggle with in ourselves. What we ridicule and make fun of in others is what we secretly fear in ourselves. What we dismiss or accept in others is the what we relate to in ourselves.
We as a people are conditioned from birth to act a certain way, to expect certain liberties, to disagree with the things we fear or do not understand, and to ridicule the things that are not accepted by our society as normal or acceptable.
It is this type of conditioning we must break free from. We must unlearn to accept the status quo, to not go with the flow, to be our unique selves because society has been mislead for far too long.
Abuse, ridicule, hate, manipulation, bullying, discrimination, and fear are all tools used to create discourse, separation, and isolation.
We need to learn to be understanding, compassionate, and accept and embrace our uniqueness and the unique traits of others. This does not mean that we have to adopt their ways or even agree with their choices. This simply means that we need to respect each other’s right to be who they are and how they are without judgement, ridicule, or punishment. (This does not include acts of violence against another for this is never acceptable.)
When we choose to act in this way we open ourselves up to peace, love, and tranquility. The very building blocks of self care, self love, and self healing.
As we heal ourselves we heal each other. We grow stronger together and as individuals. So learn to accept your own quirkiness and the quirkiness of others and let us all grow and heal together.
